CNA Information Day Planned for Sneedville

Walters State Community College invites those interested in becoming certified nursing assistants to attend a CNA Information Day from 1-3 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Hancock County Hospital.

Dr. Linda Nelms, director of workforce training health programs, will be sharing information about careers as a CNA and the college’s 12-week training program. A CNA class is scheduled for March 12-May 21 in Sneedville. The class meets twice a week during evening hours.

“I am looking forward to meeting interested adults in Hancock and surrounding counties,” Nelms said. “We are happy to bring this training to a convenient location for this area.”

“Becoming a certified nursing assistant is a good way to get into the health care career in a matter of weeks,” Nelms also said.

Nelms said CNAs are responsible for checking vital signs, reporting symptoms, providing personal support and hygiene. They work closely with nurses and other health care providers in long-term care facilities, hospitals and as home health aides.

The class will be taught by Phyllis Dossett, the director of clinical services at Hancock County Hospital.
