Certified Nurse Aide

In less than 12 weeks, you can become a Certified Nurse Aide. The primary responsibility of a certified nursing assistant is to perform basic routine patient care which may include assisting with meals or exercise, taking vital signs, personal hygiene, and reporting signs and symptoms that may indicate illness.

This training program prepares you to take the State of Tennessee certification test. In order to be certified on the Tennessee Nurse Aide Registry, an individual must have completed an approved nurse aide training program, and sit for the state competency examination within 24 months from completion of the class. The State of Tennessee requires that a nurse aide training program be at least 75 hours in duration and be coordinated by a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years' experience, one of which must be in long term care.

Students must complete 16 hours in the following areas prior to any direct contact with the residents:

• Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• Residents Rights
• Residents Independence
• Safety and Emergency Procedures including the Heimlich Maneuver, and
• Infection Control

The training program must include all other basic theoretical components defined by state and federal regulations, as well as a clinical component where the students are trained on the 25 competency skills of which they will be evaluated on five. For successful passage of the competency evaluation, the student must pass all five skills.

Those completing training are well prepared for entry level positions in the following health care settings: nursing homes, hospitals/clinics or home healthcare agencies.

 

 

EKG Technician Program

This EKG Technician Program prepares students to perform EKG's. This course will include information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography and stress testing. These training programs are highly interactive and provide students with an enriched learning experience. Each course was developed to ensure that students gain the necessary skills to excel in a professional healthcare environment.

 

 

 

Phlebotomy Technician

Broaden your horizons with a new career in Phlebotomy Technology! This course is designed to give you the hands on experience and skills needed through a combination of didactic hours, and hands-on clinical simulation training. In the Phlebotomy Technician Program, students learn to safely draw blood specimens from patients for laboratory analysis. Students learn about collection techniques as well as theory and structures of the cardiovascular system. Patient integrity and safety is highlighted. Those completing training are well prepared for productive, rewarding careers in the following settings: medical laboratories, hospitals/clinics, long-term care facilities and government laboratories.

A clinical externship placement is offered. Students must complete 40 successful venipunctures in a healthcare setting. This component provides the student with additional phlebotomy practice in a clinical setting. Students will develop blood collection skills that enhance preparations for entry into the profession. Students are placed at an externship site based on the availability of externship facilities. The completion of the externship will vary, and we cannot guarantee how long it will take to complete your externship. Upon successful completion of the externship, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) national examination and/or the American Society of Phlebotomy.
